Key Scriptures

The biblical explanation

First angel: the everlasting gospel

The first message begins with the everlasting gospel for every nation. It calls people to fear God, give Him glory, and worship the Creator in the hour of judgment. The language echoes Exodus 20:11 and, in this reading, connects the Creator call with the seventh-day Sabbath and the judgment message.

Second angel: Babylon’s fall

The second message announces Babylon’s fall. In the historicist reading, Babylon represents religious confusion and compromised worship. Revelation 18:4 shows that God still has sincere people within Babylon and calls them out; the symbol is not a license to condemn individuals.

Third angel: worship and faithful allegiance

The third message warns against worship of the beast, its image, and reception of its mark. Revelation 14:12 describes the patience of the saints, God’s commandments, and the faith of Jesus. Read alongside Ephesians 2:8–10, this describes faithful allegiance empowered by grace, not salvation earned by commandment keeping.

Giving God glory in the whole life

Stewardship and care for the body can express gratitude to the Creator (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Health practices do not earn salvation or replace the everlasting gospel. The messages should lead to Christ, not anxious speculation.

How Seventh-day Adventists Understand This

Seventh-day Adventists connect the Creator call with the seventh-day Sabbath, the judgment announcement with Christ’s heavenly ministry, and the warning against the beast with a final worship conflict. These connections are interpretive comparisons; the everlasting gospel remains central.
